The Mill Hotel and Restaurant Review

Near Lyndhurst, in the New Forest; Hampshire

The problem was, we got caught in the Friday traffic with everyone going home; and I suppose many of them felt a stop-off at The Mill would be ideal.

The wait for our food was almost an hour – which, in fairness, we were warned about before I ordered at the bar. They were just far too under-staffed. I had to wait ten minutes to place the order and everyone was sitting down at tables that needed to be cleaned. The toilets needed cleaning as well – I decided to wait till we got back to the campsite; and that’s saying something!

However, after the moaning; the food was very nice. Husband and 1 kid had a cheeseburger and chips and other kid had a chickenburger and chips. Not very healthy, I know, but I was over-ruled. All 3 of them said theirs were lovely, and they were certainly bigger than we expected; with 2 large pieces of chicken in kid 2’s burger.

I had half a roast chicken and veg. The chicken was lovely, but the “new potatoes” weren’t; and the peas and carrots were out of a frozen packet, I’m sure. We did choose from the “2 for £10” menu, and you get what you pay for.

Despite my disgruntles , the service was efficiant and friendly, though clearly they were rushed off their feet. They also had a free large children’s play den that looked very good; however ours couldn’t try it due to being closed for flood damage. For a cheap family meal, I’d go there again.
