Ecover

Yes, I really am doing a review of a spray cleaner!
I’m trying to do my little bit for the environment. Half our kitchen is taken up with all the different bins for all the different recycling. We have the energy saving light bulbs and all that sort of thing. So, for the first time recently I bought Ecover cleaning spray for the kitchen. I’m very sad to say it was a complete waste of money. Its cleaning power was rather too powerful and stripped away the surface of my kitchen surface. I’m probably making it sound more dramatic than it really is, but it really did take the sheen off it. I am a crap enough housewife to have areas that I didn’t clean to compare it to. It didn’t do enough damage to bother complaining about to the manufacturer of Ecover, but I certainly won’t be using it again. I’ll have to use it up cleaning the inside of cupboards and the cat’s wee on the carpet; but not on the kitchen surfaces. Maybe they didn’t test it on cheap B& Q laminate covered chipboard like mine; maybe it worked perfectly on granite. Let’s face it, (and apologies for this sweeping generalisation) but people with granite work surfaces are probably more willing to pay £1 more than Mr Muscle for their cleaner, and £2 more than a supermarket own brand.
I’m disappointed because I really would rather not spray horrible chemicals about the house, but there are no other alternative brands in my nearest Sainsburys, and I’m sorry, but half a lemon rubbed everywhere just doesn’t do the trick.
So this review is a bit of a warning and a plea to other eco companies to badger the supermarkets to get your products bought by them.
