I still haven’t worked out what to do when I grow up! I’m mainly a writer, an artist, and a fairytale dressmaker with various crafty hobbies! Here (and on YouTube) I share bits of my life, thoughts, and what I’m learning along the way. Let’s find magic and inspiration; join me for this creative living adventure!

the Newquay Meadery

A medieval themed restaurant in Newquay, Cornwall. Me and the girls loved the opportunity to get all dressed up!

I thought I’d done a review of this place before, but I couldn’t find it in the list just now – my apologies if I have though!

Anyway, we’ve been here twice now, and I can see it becomming a regular visit every time we go down to Cornwall. My daughters and myself get dressed up in our beautiful gothic medeival dresses and we swish our way into the restaurant. (Husband comes too, but he doesn’t count as he doesn’t dress up!). The food here is absolutely delicious. More than delicious; I have honestly never tasted more gorgeous food. You cannot visit Newquay without eating here.

Last time we went myself and the kids had the meat platter to share – a mixture of boar, venison, lamb, a quarter chicken and steak. Shared between us there was plenty left over – it would easily feed four or five adults. Chris had the steak and said it was lovely.

This time Rain and Jude chose from the kid’s menu – which had the usual burger, or nuggets, but also scampi and a quarter chicken. They both had the chicken. As an extra we all had starter as well. I had a lovely prawn cocktail, Chris had melted cheese on garlic bread and Rain and Jude shared a breaded cod thing. For the main course this time I had venison steak and Chris had a burger. The only vegetable that you get is mushrooms, but each table gets a bowl of salad and a bowl of chips and potatoe wedges included. The kids had ice cream included in their meal; Chris also had large ice cream sundae, and I chose an apple and toffee pudding.

It was all absolutely gorgeous, and with 2 pints of beer, the whole bill came to £45. It’s not a cheap night out, but as resaurants go; and the amount of food with each portion; not to mention how bloody lovely it tasted; I think it was pretty good value for money.

So that’s the food. The place itself is totally done up as a medieval castle and looks great. The lighting is dim with romantic candles on the tables. You can choose smaoking or non-smoking. The service is fast and friendly – especially the second time when the Australian waitress was obviously after a good tip – and got one! The toilets were spotless, though I think it’s a shame that the previous “Wenches” sign on the door has been seen as not PC enough and has been changed to “Ladies”.

I think you’ve probably guessed by now that overall, I definitely recommend The Newquay Meadery!
